Cats gobo lighting

I know the Cats musical is a huge meme but the lighting and scenic design is incredible. I think the gobos here are used to break up the directional lighting rather than projecting an image onto the floor. This lighting design fills the open space with texture, rather than harsh directional lighting. It creates a really interesting and dramatic effect. 

Dance Gobos

When I think of gobos I think of the cheesy backgrounds of the dance recitals I grew up with. Obviously this one is super nice with multicolored cyc lighting. This is super common in having a city projected on a cyc to establish that a dance is set in New York or Chicago or something. It's cheesy but it's effective.

The Gobo lights highlight the subject on the stage. I like that the light is able to create the shapes on the stage, almost looks like shattered glass.

This stage utilizes gobo lighting in order to illuminate the stage. I like how the lights are able to create shapes on the stage. The color also creates a calming atmosphere.

Hallway

The lighting and color in this photo help create a very dramatic scene. The intensity of the light behind him even though there really is no clear light source means that whatever is producing the light is strong and bright. This adds to the tension of the scena and the photo because the audience knows that something big is about to happen, but it is not clear exactly what.

Moody Streetlight

I chose this photo because it presents a very unsettling mood for the onlooker. To me, it gives off a serious "murderer in the dark at midnight" kind of vibes. The way the light is angles gives the figure below it no face, no features, and only a shadow, making the setting as a whole very sketchy.

Moody Street corner

I chose this photo because there is so much going on in the scene, but at the same time it's so still. There are many brightly colored neon signs and street lights illuminating shop signs. But, there are few care and we can only see one pedestrian. It is quite eery.
