This picture is from Halsey's performance on Saturday Night Live. She is the clear focus with the lighting because while she is bright and illuminated, the other instrument players in the background are darker and are therefore not what the audience will be attracted to. Spotlighting on people is a perfect example of selective focus because it forces you to look at what is lit up since nowhere else onstage really is.
While I agree that Halsey is clearly the focus. I like how the use of purple flairs of light are used to highlight the band in a way by creating pockets of purple behind the band players. The purple lights also illuminate the reflective gold pattern behind the band, that helps to also draw attention to the band players more subtly.
ReplyDeleteI love concert lighting, especially when the background is interesting and accompanies the music but also we clearly see the performer
ReplyDeleteThis is a really interesting image—as you mentioned, Halsey is the clear focus of the performance due to her being illuminated most clearly. Her black and white outfit goes well with the relatively natural lighting on her, and provides another point of contrast to the pinks, purples, and golds of the rest of the set.
ReplyDeleteI like the almost-silhouette effect on the players behind Halsey. It seems like the darker intensity, pink/purple/blue light on the back walls serves as a contrasting, but nice background to the brighter white light that highlights the singer.
