This depiction of the Virgin of Guadalupe is stunning to me. The warm backlight gives her a radiant halo around her entire figure. As the light gets absorbed into the clouds, it is filtered into a shadowy, mystical aura.
I love that the light is brighter near her head and grows slightly darker towards her feet. I feel like this helps symbolize her holiness and connection to God, which I believe is a common theme in religious depictions and lighting. The whole work here is gorgeous and so thoughtfully done.
