Directional Lighting 2

This photograph by Phil Chester uses two lights from opposing directions. The blue light seems like moonlight, as if there were no roof over the subjects' heads. This, and their location, suggests they are attempting to sleep, but the strange blood orange light keeps them awake. It also keeps them warm, and maybe comforted. It doesn't quite look like sunlight, but resembles a deep red sunset. It touches only their heads and faces, drawing attention to their expressions as the image's focal point(s).

  1. I am really drawn to the opposing lights. I like how the reddish light only touches parts of their faces. The red light also catches their facial expressions. By contrast, the blue light engulfs most of their body. These opposing lights create a melancholy mood.
