The lighting in this photo is soft and gentle. Pairing such a simple illumination to the young girl only helps showcase her youth. In relation with the black and white aspect of the photo, it makes the photo hold a certain air of seriousness as the only source of light provided in the photo is coming from a source we cannot see. It is as if the child is looking towards an unknown future.
